Breve descrizione

The Associazione Culturale Musicale Maestro Angelo Inglese (1918-1990) in collaboration with the Anbima (National Association of Italian Autonomous Musical Bands), and under the patronage of the MIBACT (Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism), the Metropolitan City of Bari, the Municipalities of Bari and Molfetta, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Italy and the Centro Studi Giacomo Puccini, announces the 6th International competition for band composition Angelo Inglese, to honor the memory of Maestro Angelo Inglese (1918-1990), considered one of the greatest Apulian exponents of twentieth-century band music, and to promote and increase the band's musical culture between tradition and innovation.

The sixth edition of the competition is dedicated to the centenary of the death of Giacomo Puccini (1924-2024).


Regolamento

RULES

 

Art. 1

The Associazione Culturale Musicale Maestro Angelo Inglese (1918-1990) in collaboration with the Anbima (National Association of Italian Autonomous Musical Bands), and under the patronage of the MIBACT (Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism), the Metropolitan City of Bari, the Municipalities of Bari and Molfetta, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Italy and the Centro Studi Giacomo Puccini, announces the 6th International competition for band composition Angelo Inglese, to honor the memory of Maestro Angelo Inglese (1918-1990), considered one of the greatest Apulian exponents of twentieth-century band music, and to promote and increase the band's musical culture between tradition and innovation.

 

Art. 2

The competition is open to all composers of any nationality, without any age limit.

 

Art. 3

The competition is divided into two categories:

category A symphonic piece (duration 15 minutes)

category B original instrumentation for Brass Band (duration 7-10 minutes)

 

The sixth edition of the competition is dedicated to the centenary of the death of Giacomo Puccini (1924-2024).

Participants in category A will have to be inspired and draw freely on the immortal melodies and life of the famous Italian opera composer. The scores, in fact, must contain ideas, fragments, quotations and/or variations on a theme reminiscent of Puccini. Participants in category B will have to create an original instrumentation for Brass Band of a piece chosen from the Puccini operatic repertoire.

The scores of Category A must include the following instrumentation: 

Piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, english horn (optional), clarinet in Eb, clarinets in Bb 1, 2 and 3, alto clarinet in Eb (optional), bass clarinet in Bb, contrabass clarinet in Bb (optional), 2 bassoons, double bassoon (optional), soprano saxophone (optional), 2 alto saxophones, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, bass saxophone (ad libitum), 3 trumpets in Bb,  4th trumpet in Bb (optional), 4 horns in F, 3 trombones, 2 flugelhorn in Bb,  (optional), tenorhorn in Bb (ad libitum), 2 euphoniums, 2 tubas, double bass; timpani, drum, bass drum and cymbales, glockenspiel (optional); mallets: xylophone, vibraphone, marimba, etc. (optional); accessories: tam tam, triangle, maracas, wood block, claves, etc. (optional).

the percussion section consists of 1 timpanist and a maximum of 4 percussionists.

 

The scores of Category B must include the following instrumentation:

soprano cornet, solo cornets in Bb, repiano Bb cornet, 2nd Bb cornets, 3rd Bb cornets, Bb flugelhorn, solo Eb horn, 1st Eb horn, 2nd Eb horn, 1st Bb baritone, 2nd Bb baritone, 1st Bb trombone, 2nd Bb trombone, Bass trombone, 1st Bb euphonium, 2nd Bb euphonium, Eb basses, Bb basses; timpani, drum, bass drum and cymbales, glockenspiel (optional); mallets: xylophone, vibraphone, marimba, etc. (optional); accessories: tam tam, triangle, maracas, wood block, claves, etc. (optional).

the percussion section consists of 1 timpanist and a maximum of 4 percussionists.

 

Art. 4

On the full score, in PDF format, must appear the title and the indication of the category of participation A (symphonic piece) or B (original instrumentation for Brass Band), and there must not be any name or signature of the composer, but only a motto or pseudonym; a Midi simulation in MP3 format will be attached to the full score. Therefore participating composers are strongly advised to use professional playback tools such as NotePerformer.

 

Art. 5

A folder in ZIP format marked with the composer's motto or pseudonym, must be attached to the full score and must contain:

- duly completed application form, attached to this announcement;

- curriculum vitae

- a declaration signed at the bottom by the author stating:

to be registered at SIAE (Society of Authors and Publishers) and/or at another foreign collective management company; to know the Rules and to accept it in all its parts; to be the sole author of the score; that the score in question is unpublished and has not received prizes or recommendations in other competitions; that the author accepts the unquestionable judgment of the Jury;

- receipt of the registration fee (reason: QUOTA D'ISCRIZIONE) of € 75 payable to:

Art. 6

All material must be sent by email, no later than January 13, 2024 to the following email address: angeloinglesecompetition@gmail.com

 

The organization reserves the right to extend this date. The new deadline will eventually be communicated via the official websites and social channels.

Art. 7

The scores will not be returned.

 

Art. 8

The compositions will be submitted to the unquestionable judgment of the Jury who will announce the winners of categories A and B. In addition, the Jury will have the right to report worthy compositions or give not recognition if it deems it necessary.

 

Art. 9

The winning composer will then have to provide for the realization and transmission, by email, of all the individual instrumental parts.

 

Art. 10

Awards:

 

€ 2500    for the category A symphonic piece

€ 1500    for category B original instrumentation

 

The winning score of category A will be published by Musikverlag Frank (Luterbach, Switzerland)

The winning score of category B will be published by Edizioni M. Boario (Turin, Italy)

 

If the participating composer is contractually linked to another publisher, he may participate in the competition by attaching the documentation required in Art. 5 a signed statement certifying that fact. In the absence of such a signed declaration, the winning score will be published by the partner publishers of the competition.

 

The winning scores of the two categories will be performed during the celebrations of the centenary of the death of Giacomo Puccini and scheduled for the 2024 concert seasons of the following institutions:

 

Banda Sinfonica Giovanile Nazionale Anbima

Wind Orchestra of the Conservatory of Bari

Orchestra Fiati di Valle Canonica

Italian Brass Band

Federazione Italiana Brass Bands

Italian Brass Week

 

Art. 11

Participation in the Competition implies the unconditional acceptance of this Notice as well as consent to the use of your personal data.
