Ex tempore - From music text and improvisation

Course for viola da gamba, lirone & harpsichord, improvisation & basso continuo, consort & chamber music

With Friederike Heumann and Dirk Börner

The course is aimed at music students, advanced amateurs, after consultation also at modern strings (cellists, double bassists ...), who want to engage with historical performance practice.

Repertoire for consort and chamber music: own suggestions and wishes are welcome, for example music for scored gambas in tablature notation, Italian, French and English consort music, chamber music with harpsichord and basso continuo as well as improvisation exercises. General bass and harpsichord lessons are designed to develop the ability of a musical speech "ex tempore".

In a playful way (homo ludens!) basic building blocks such as sentence models, ostinati, cadenzas etc. will be taught.
With the help of which, the first musical movements, paragraphs and musical speeches will be improvised.

We will explore the different types of prelude (solo or dialogue). In addition, the work with three-part sentence models in the consort and in interaction with the harpsichordists allows a variety of possibilities of interaction on grounds, ostinate basses and Passacaglia basses.
